Topics in Hispanic Cultures: Social Justice and Latin American & Latinx Film
Spring 2019 & 2020
In this course, students learn about issues of social justice affecting Latin American and Latinx communities through the study of contemporary films grouped under four themes which guide in-class discussions and assignments: Migrations, Cultural Borders, Marginalized Groups, Violence and Children.
The course also guides students toward learning to articulate their thoughts about films in Spanish and discover deeper layers of meaning through images. Films are in Spanish with English subtitles, the course is taught in Spanish.
